Struggling mother enjoys a £1 million lottery win this Christmas. She and her husband, who were struggling to afford presents for their 15-year-old son, can now have a great Christmas.

A mother has expressed her joy and relief at being able to afford Christmas presents for her son after winning a £1 million lottery jackpot. Karen Dakin, 54, and her husband Jeff, 60, won £1 million on the National Lottery before Mother’s Day on March 13.

The former playground supervisor has revealed that last year, she received money from her father to buy her son Callum’s Christmas presents. This was after Jeff suffered a stroke at work in 2018. Jeff worked as an NHS storeman at Ipswich Hospital when he suffered his stroke. He stayed in hospital for a month as he recovered.

Karen said: ‘We had always struggled, so my dad gave us money that Christmas to help with Callum’s presents.’ After winning the lottery, Karen quit her job and can now ensure her 15-year-old son has a secure future ahead of him.

The family were able to upgrade their two-bed rental property for a five-bed bungalow following the win. Karen said she and her family are planning a holiday to Portugal, as her son has never been on a plane. She is determined to create lasting memories for him.
