The winners of the record breaking £184 million EuroMillions jackpot have been named. The winners from Gloucester UK , named as Joe and Jess Thwaite, scooped the huge jackpot on 10th May 2022.

Joe Thwaite, 49, and Jess Thwaite, 44, bagged the huge EuroMillions jackpot of £184 million. The couple were given their oversized cheque during a media event in Cheltenham on 19th May. They said their luck was ‘pretty terrible’ before this big win.

The husband and wife duo matched all five numbers, 3, 25, 27, 28 and 29, plus Lucky Stars 4 and 9, in a historic draw. They contacted the National Lottery immediately after the draw. After getting their claim validated, they waiting a few days before deciding to release their names to the public. It was a decision taken with consideration of their family and friends.

The winning ticket was a Lucky Dip that was purchased on the day of the draw by Joe. His wife did not believe him when he told her they won. They had to check the numbers many before truly believing they’d actually won. Before the win, Jess ran and worked in a salon, while Joe worked as a communication sales engineer. The couple continued to live their lives as normal while they waited for the win to be confirmed.

They told their family members as soon as the win was confirmed and received very mixed reactions. Jess’s mother ‘screamed in the car park and burst into tears’. Jess said her mum is a regular lottery follower and knew the jackpot amount, ‘right down to the 10p at the end’.

Looking towards the future

The Thwaites plan to take some time to think about their future. They describe themselves as ‘normal people’ who got very lucky. The couple bought their current house two months ago, which has plenty of room for renovation.

Lots of holidays could coming-up. The Thwaites have two children, and their youngest has always wanted to visit Hawaii.

Joe has made the decision to leave his job. Jess is not sure what her future holds, but feels it will be a ‘full-time job just managing all of this for quite some time’.
